Thanks for your comment. No one is saying that case management costs more than the mammograms. The story says that the cost of case management has been growing faster than the cost of mammograms. And last year, case management for women with normal screens cost about $14 million, or nearly one-third of the program's budget. Under the legislative analyst's proposal, case management would still be reimbursed for women who test positive.

I don't know whose doing the math here but to suggest management fees that haven't been raised since the program and can only be reimbursed once on each case no matter how complicated have somehow exceeded the cost of providing mammos and paps is rediculous.
How much does one case of late phase breast cancer for and uninsured patient cost the state? The family? The woman? These people need to get their math and their priorities straight!

Kudos to assemblywoman Evans and Assemblyman Nava for fighting to protect the rights of lower income women! Virtually all industrial nations consider health care to be a fundamental human right. Only this country leaves it poor and hungry to fend for themselves. Its not just health care that is being stripped away. Slowly but surely many of our most vital social services are being scrapped including preschool for lower income families and their children! Cutting this childcare will have a profound and lasting impact on low income working parents who depend on affordable childcare in order to keep their jobs and support their children’s future learning opportunities.
