Time For Yourself Isn’t Selfish – It’s Necessary

In a time when information is coming your way from every direction, when you can be easily reached by anyone within seconds, and when you have enough “online” friends to fill a concert hall, comes a time when you need to be alone. Many can interpret this need in the wrong way. Some might think you are troubled, and others that you are showing signs of depression. And some can think of you as selfish.

But regardless of what anyone else thinks it is indeed necessary to spend some alone time, and for several reasons.

Gather Your Thoughts

The best way to truly understand how you feel about something and what you really want out of a certain situation is by staying by yourself. Although many people can give you their opinion on different aspects of your life, in the end, it is you who will make the final decision. And that is why you should listen to your inner voice, which is best heard when you are alone.

When we spend too much time surrounded by many people, we can get easily confused, and eventually act out impulsively. So being alone, allows us to think and gather our thoughts.

Self-Care Is Best Done If You Are Alone

One of the best ways to preserve your mental health is by practicing self-care. The practice of self-care can take many forms. Some people like to do yoga and meditate, while others think that the best self-care is a physical activity. Basically, self-care is doing anything that agrees with you that will improve your mental health.

One of the best ways to do self-care is by yourself. Firstly, you can never be sure what is the mood of the person you are with. In order to practice self-care, you must be calm and think positively, and that is why it is better not to risk it by including someone else. Also, Self-care is all about you. This means that you should waste energy focusing on anyone else.

Escape The Virtual World

Although some people like to spend their “alone time” on the computer or by looking at a smart device, most tend not to. Being truly alone means getting away from everyone, and that can hardly be the case if our online presence is noted.

In today’s world, real-life socializing is seen as a rarity. Young adults and teenagers spend most of their time online, chatting with their friends. Adults are now following the same pattern. That is why being truly alone, without an online presence is important every once in a while.

Without that alone time, people wouldn’t be able to make conclusions and decisions. We would entirely depend on the opinions and feelings of others, without using our common sense.
